Day to day service management options for CSP/SI to manage each customer service instance or share management (co-manage) with enterprises that want shared control over their wide area network.

Beyond Connectivity

Across all industries, enterprises are adopting technology strategies to achieve the business benefits of their digital transformation investments.
Building on the initial network transition and the move from IP-VPN to SD-WAN, has been the integration of a comprehensive security framework that provides end-to-end policy enforcement at every point of the wide area network.
Coined by industry analyst Gartner, Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) complements SD-WAN by adding a ‘Secure it’ framework to the ‘Connect it’ foundation of SD-WAN.
When deployed together, these two technologies form the unified network foundation and security framework for enterprises so they can reap the benefit of their IT move to public cloud(s) and their SaaS investments.
But Nuage Service Edge does more than cloud and security, it provides dedicated function points that extend the reach and capability of the enterprise network. This functional options include:

Service Edge: Cloud Interconnect (SE:CI)

SE:CI is a focused set of functions that simplify the connections between the customer SD-WAN service instance and the Public Cloud providers. With support for both over the top and dedicated links to the cloud and interworking to the Public Clouds advanced networking features CSPs/SIs can deploy seamless enterprise networking from the branch to the cloud. Features include:.

  • Public and Private (express link) connectivity support to/from the cloud
  • Connection to Cloud meet me points at suppliers including Equinix and Megaport
  • Interworking to Azure vWAN
  • Interworking to AWS Transit Gateway services
  • Interworking to GCP

Service Edge: Cloud Security (SE:CS)

SE:CS provides interworking to the industry’s leading cloud based security suites (Security Services Edge -SSE) and cloud service access brokers (CASB). The solution is flexible and will be augmented via customer direction on which SSE solutions they need integrated into their managed SD-WAN service. Nuage SE:CS is built to accommodate open interworking with any SSE vendor and follows the Nuage vision of delivering open and flexible networking. The solution has formal certification with solutions, such as Zscaler and Check Point but has ongoing work to validate other solutions and can formalize these with customer demand.

Service Edge: Hybrid Working (SE:HW)

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way enterprise networking was delivered across the world, and fast tracked the adoption of Hybrid working environments across all industries. Work From Home (WFH) is here to stay with many enterprises implementing permanent hybrid working policies.

SE:HW has two solutions to meet the needs of Enterprises wanting their hybrid workforce having the same IT services visibility and control as the office based employees. These include:

  • Home Gateway: a low cost SD-WAN gateway that delivers an isolated home working environment that’s securely separated from the households residential traffic. This supports full SD-WAN feature set and supports up to three wired enterprise devices (PC, IP phone, printer etc.) with the option of embedded Wi-Fi.

  • VPN soft client: A laptop based software solution that provides single device, securely encrypted with IPsec direct into the SE:HW system for insertion into the enterprise SD-WAN service Instance.

Service Edge: Mobile Devices (SE:MD)

SD-WAN has delivered value for enterprises digitally transforming their business with its application aware branch to cloud networking foundations. And over time its extended its reach to include the hybrid workforce working remotely at home. What is missing from the SD-WAN solution has been enterprise devices attached to the 4G and 4G public wireless networks. These include enterprise supplied mobile phones and tablets and growing number of enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) devices and sensors.

SE:MD changes this by providing seamless interworking between the 4G/5G network and SD-WAN service. Aimed at CSPs/SIs that have access to their own or MVNO based mobile networks the SE:MD solution delivers a simplified operational model with full multi-tenancy to allow the CSP / SI to connect enterprise devices to shared SD-WAN APN/DDN (as an example (sd-wan.csp.com) where Nuage SE:MD will separate devices by enterprise and insert them into the enterprise specific SD-WAN service instance. For the CSP / SI this increases the reach of their market, opening up APN/DDN based mobile broadband to a wider set of enterprise customers, without increasing operational overhead. And for the enterprise this provides, for the first time, a single IT management domain that provides consistent IT network, application and security policies for all enterprise assets, regardless of location.
